360 degree cameras are not new and there have been many of them with different designs and feature set. This time, a new camera built by a Hong Kong based startup joined this league, but with a distinct design. Its known as the Nico360 and has instantly grabbed attention by offering the smallest device ever with 360-degree imaging capacity. With a size and dimension that easily allow it to be hidden within your fist, it is the smallest 360-degree camera to date.

But the exceptional size and dimension apart, it is also a highly equipped camera with rich features and matchless performance. With its zero footprint design and a gamut of state of the art features, it is likely to throw tough competition for most portable 360-degree cameras. Most importantly, to date, it is one of the most affordable cameras as well.

Cute zero footprint design

Nico360 is a tiny square sized camera that weighs only 96 grams and has a length of 46mm. The smooth matte finish and sleek zero footprint design allow for carrying it anywhere. The inconspicuous buttons along with the small lens give the product a unique flair.

How does Nico360 work?

Nico360 is ready to capture video in any environment and there are four different video recording options including Flat Mode, Sphere Mode, Planet Mode, and VR Mode. The captured video footage can be stitched within the camera to offer panoramic and spherical 360-degree image. Nico360 will also allow live video streaming through Bluetooth 4.0 or WiFi 5Ghz/AC. It can record surround sound with an integrated stereo microphone when capturing the video. You can store the videos within the device as there is 32 GB of builtin storage. The image stabilization feature helps preventing shaky effects while capturing video with this camera.

Robust features and specs

Besides its tiny size the Nico360 is also loaded with an appealing range of features. Let us have a look at some of these.

  • As per the company, the camera will have two 16MP Sony sensors that can help capturing still images with up to 25MP pixel count. It will also be able to produce 2560 x 1440/30fps video.
  • Like most other 360-degree cameras, video and image streaming for VR headsets will be available with Nico360.
  • The camera is waterproof.
  • A 1/4″ mount will be provided.
  • The camera can accept microSD cards.
  • The most noteworthy of the features is its capability to live stream 360-degree videos.
  • The resolution of the sensors is 25MP and it is capable of recording 1440p video.
  • The integrated WiFi will help video streaming for VR headsets as well.

Price and availability

Nico360 in Kickstarter was seeking only a fund of $50,000 and already it has reached its target by raising over $57,000 as of now. So, the project has been successful and we can expect it to hit the market soon. The retail price as finalized by the company will be $199, though super early bird price for the units sold now will only cost $99 on Indiegogo.

Is it really worth the price?

Well, as for assessing the overall merit of the product, we must admit the design and size-wise aspects as breakthrough enough. As for features though it seems pretty robust but still it is not the best one in comparison to other latest 360 degree cameras.
