How To Add Nicknames To Your Android Contacts

There are lots of fun things you can do to customize your Android phone. Getting a new launcher or switching to a cool designer Home Screen are definitely at the top of the list.

In this post, we talk about yet another way to spice up your Android experience. You can quite easily and quickly create memorable nicknames for your contacts, making looking for the needed contact easier (not to mention way more fun).

If you often use Google Now to initiate actions on your phone, such as calling or texting, leaving memos and more, this feature can come in quite handy. Say, you want to call your best friend. Surely, you can always task Google Now with calling “Jeremy Matthews”, but wouldn’t it be way cooler to use your friend’s nickname instead and call “J Boy”?

Here’s how you can add nicknames to your contact list

Step 1. Open Google Now on your Android phone.

Step 2. Say “Okay Google” or tap on the microphone icon to speak. Alternatively, simply tap in the text field to start .

Step 3. Tell Google what you want about the contact. For instance, “ Jeremy is J Boy” or “Mike Richards is my brother”.

Step 4. Google might ask you to choose a specific contact if you have several listings in your contacts list by that name. Simply tap on the needed name.

Step 5. If everything is correct, save the nickname for the contact. To do this, tap on the check mark in a blue circle.

Step 6. If all went well, Google will send you a confirmation that the nickname has been added. There you go!

Note: If at some point you may want to remove the nickname from the contact – follow the same steps, but say “Jeremy is not J Boy” or “Mike Richards is not my brother” in Google Now.
