Google’s Android Pay function, a direct rival to Apple Pay, has started rolling out across the US.

It works in almost the exact same way as Apple Pay and aims to give the wider audience of Android users access to easy proximity payments thorough their smart devices. This will let them pay for purchases at point of sale by using NFC technology and swiping their phone over an NFC reader, they will also be able to make in app purchases directly through the new system.

It has started launching with a number of big retailers such as Best Buy, MacDonald, Macy’s just to name a few and this first roll out covers some 1 million locations.

If you already have a Google wallet then all you need to do is update the app on your device to access the new pay system and any new users wishing to get their hands on this should head to the Google Play store to download it on supported devices.

This payment technology like the Apply pay and Samsung Pay will let users head out with just a phone and leave all other baggage behind. They will no longer need to fumble around in a bag for a purse or worry about having the right change or ending up with coins rattling around in their pocket. Just one simple swipe and this contactless payment system makes life fast and easy as well as manages any loyalty and reward points automatically.

Many people applaud this new technology while there are at least an equal number of users who are unsure of the safety aspects regarding having their payment methods tied to a Smartphone.

With Android pay when you make a payment the app will not send or transmit any bank details so they can’t be intercepted by third party technology.

However if you’re going to use this new payment app it’s worth while setting up the Android Device Manager system so that should you lose your phone or have it stolen you can remotely wipe any data and stop unwanted access. In fact even if you’re not planning on using the Android Pay it’s still worthwhile enabling this feature.
