Solar Impulse 2 fly into the record books on Leg 8 from Nagoya to Kalaeloa

After an abandoned attempt to fly from Nanjing to Kalaeloa in Hawaii at the end of May, the Solar Impulse team diverted to Japan where they waited out a cold front keeping their fingers crossed for a good weather window to arrive.
This isn’t the first time the Solar Impulse team has been held up by bad weather and as the aircraft is susceptible to inclement weather the team will likely face more delays in their bid to fly around the world.
The latest delay, that lasted almost one month finally came to an end on the 28th of June when with Andre Borschberg at the controls, Solar Impulse 2 finally took off from Nagoya and flew into the record books.

Spending 5 days and nights flying over 7000km across the Pacific Ocean Andre Borschberg became the new record holder for the longest manned flight and surpassed the previous record of 76 hours, set by adventure Steve Fossett in 2006.
His partner in this round the world enterprise, Betrand Piccard met him in Kalaeloa, Hawaii, and will take over the pilot duties for the next leg, this will take him from Hawaii to Phoenix, Arizona completing the Pacific crossing and brining the team a step closer to its dream of flying a solar powered aircraft around the globe.
