The countdown is up on Google’s webpage. Only 6 days and a handful of hours to wait until we find out more about Google’s latest developer products in two days of talks and some hands on learning at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, California.

Its that time of year again for the Google I/O. Last year there was the Google Cardboard give away and a huge focus on Android L. This turned out to be the Android 5.0 OS also known as Lollipop. We also saw Android wear and Android auto debuted last year as well. So, just what can we expect from this year?

Wearables & Android M??

Well there is a lot of leaked information and speculation about a new Android M, supposedly for the new generation of wearable devices. While there is no mention of Android M on the schedule (it appears to have been removed), there’s is an entry for the Google Fit, which could indicate an update for the fitness and activity data gathering device.

There could even be some all new wearables to respond to the success of the Apple watch, and what about the fate of Google Glass? I would also be very surprised if we didn’t see more updates on the Project Ara and also Project Tango with some info on how this will work to connect the virtual and real worlds.

Virtual Reality

Google cardboard made a big debuted last year and with many rivals on the Virtual Reality stage such as the Oculus Rift and HoloLens it’s likely that Google will be making some announcements here to make up lost ground on the competition. There are several session slotted for VR in this year’s event with the first one called “Make Believe”, This is likely to be introducing developers to ways that VR this could change our life’s and how to make better VR experiences.

Android Auto

Google is also continuing its development with driver-less cars and as more countries develop the required laws to determine how to legislate and even insure these vehicles it’s likely that there will be several updates to the Android Auto. Especially given that there were a number of high profile announcements at the CES earlier this year from companies such as Pioneer and Volkswagen.

Smart Home

Last year Google acquired Nest, the smart fire alarm and thermostat company, and it appears there will be some focus on smart homes in this year’s I/O with a slot for “working with Nest to build a thoughtful home together.” The “Brillo,” OS that Google is reportedly developing for the internet of things to work smoothly with its multitude of different devices could also make an appearance.

With so much to look forward to there will be a lot of anticipation over the Google I/O event. What do you think will be announced and what would you like to see this year?
