These days we really can’t complain when it comes to the abundance of applications available on both Play Store and App Store. In fact, there are only a few instances left, when we can not utter the famous phrase: “there’s an app for that”.

However, we could have had even more, if both app markets did not perform market raids to remove the applications that violated their regulations, principles or common sense.

Right here below, we have a few examples for you of the apps that have been banned from one of the stores (or both) for one (or all) of the reasons above.

Secret SMS Replicator

The app was available on Google Play Store – but alas – for a short time only. Secret SMS Replicator was a sort of spyware that allowed to read other people’s text messages without their knowledge. Developers intended the app as a way to control your second half. By installing the app on their device, all their text messages would be forwarded to you (or any other specified number) without them being aware of the fact. The app could have been a big success with user population, but was quickly taken off by Google for violating its market policies.

Dirty Fingers

The name of the app may give you as clue as to why it was eventually banned. Once one of the most downloadable applications on App Store and Google Play Store, the app featured a skimpily dressed woman wiping off steam of your phone screen. It may have been described as a live wallpaper – and the interactive component allowed you to direct the virtual lady to different areas of your phone’s screen. The app quickly gained popularity among both IOS and Android users – but was eventually banned on IOS, based on complaints from some users. Good news: Android users can still download the app.

AdAway

An app that is truly worth mourning over, AdAway removed ads from other Play Store applications and thus offered its users the chance to use lots of free content without annoying pop-ups. However, the annoying pop-ups were one of the ways for the Play Store to make money. Quickly identifying the enemy, Google removed the application from its lists, but it remains available on other websites. So if you are intent on getting rid of promotional content – do look it up.

Grooveshark

Probably one of the most controversial Play Store exiles is this app right here. Grooveshark needs no introduction, being one of the most popular music streaming apps out there. The app worked globally, which made it one of the top choices for users outside the US, had a simple and user-friendly interface as well as great content. Why Play Store has decided to rid itself of it still remains a good question and hopeful app fans are looking forward to a comeback.

I Am Rich

The app was initially only offered for IOS users only, but we can’t help mentioning it because of the sheer ridiculousness of the application. The app appeared on the App Store at the price of $999.99 and was dubbed I Am Rich. What did the app do? Absolutely nothing. Apparently aimed at the rich and extravagant, the app just showed a red crystal on a black background and promised to help you stay “rich, successful and healthy”. The app was removed for lack of any tangible benefit to the users.
