Android Virus Do not panic just yet. Having a virus on your Android is highly unlikely. If you have noticed lagging – it is mostly probably caused by other things – like an app that is using too much CPU or updates going on in the background. However, if you do notice continuous problems with performance, battery drain, your phone calls being interrupted by weird noises or files being copied in the background – it may be time for a malware check.

If you have turned out to be one of the unlucky ones and there does happen to be a virus on your phone – don’t worry. There is a way to get rid of it and you can do it all by yourself.

First, put your phone in Safe Mode. It will make sure that the malware app is not running in the background and nothing will prevent you from getting rid of the bad stuff. On most phones, all you have to do to get into Safe Mode is turn off the device and then long press the power button. However, the process may slightly differ from model to model – so you may want to look up how it works for your specific model.

Second, open up the Apps section and look for downloaded apps. If you know the app that’s been causing you trouble – just go on to uninstall it. If you are not sure, go through the list and have your eye out for anything suspicious. If there is an application there, that you do not remember installing – this may be your culprit.

There you go. Once the app is uninstalled, your troubles should be over. Unless – drum roll – the virus has granted itself administrator status over your device. Then, you will not be able to uninstall the app right away and will have to go right ahead to Settings>Security>Device Administrators. There you will see all the apps that have been granted admin status over your device. Take a long hard look at the list and untick any applications that you think do not belong on that list. Once that is done, go back to Apps – you will be able to uninstall the virus app now with no issues.

Now all that’s left is to get out of Safe Mode by restarting the phone and turning it on the normal way. Look at the way your phone is working now – everything should go back to normal.

Getting rid of the virus, even though not particularly complicated, is unpleasant. What’s more, before the enemy is spotted, it can cause lots of troubles inside your device, especially when it comes to personal data.

Thus, preventing the malware from getting onto your phone in the first place, is key to efficiency and a joyful Android experience.
