Android and Mac

Working across different operation systems does not have to be difficult. We have come to believe that having one Apple device leads on to committing to Apple with other gadget needs as well. But, actually, there are plenty of chances to enjoy the benefits of both platforms. All you have to do is find a good way to sync  your data between all your devices – and these days it’s absolutely possible.

Here is a simple guide of syncing your Android phone with your Mac through Google.

We assume that your Android phone is already synced with your Google account and will proceed from that point on.

Syncing Your Contacts

Go to Address Book/Contacts on your Mac and open Preferences. There you will be able to see all the accounts your Address Book is currently synced with and add new ones. Click on the plus icon below and you will see a list of options for syncing. Choose Google from the list – and a new window will open up asking you for your login information. Once you enter you email and password, the syncing process will begin.

Syncing Your Calendar

Google Calendar is a great tool for managing work and life – so it’s quite natural that you will want to use it on your phone and have a reliable access to your Google schedule on your Mac as well.

Open up the Calendar app on your Mac and follow the same path – go to Preferences>Accounts. Click the “plus” symbol below, choose Google and log into your account. Once you’re logged in, the sync button will appear and you will be able to get you Google data into your laptop calendar.

Syncing Your Media

Syncing your media is not as straightforward as the two previous options, but it is made simpler with the abundance of applications that promise to take care of the syncing process for you. One of these apps is Double Twist – which is free and lets you sync all types of media (photos, music, videos, etc.) across platforms. There are two ways of operating the sync – via a USB cable (free) or via Wi-Fi (one time $5 payment).

We will go over the USB syncing option here.

Go ahead and download DoubleTwist app for your Mac first – it’s free. Once you open the app, it will import the contents of your iTunes, but not the playlists (you can manage your playlists manually later). You may also want to enable the feature Automatically Import iTunes Playlist Changes – so that the app will sync all the changes made in your iTunes library.

Now let’s move on to your Android phone and download the app as well. After the app is ready, use a USB cable to connect your phone to your laptop and follow the instructions. After it’s all done, you will be able to sync your media between your phone and laptop: either automatically or by dragging and dropping the chosen files.

Syncing Other Content

When it comes to syncing other files, such as documents, speadsheets and others, you can use cloud storage devices, such as Dropbox or SkyDrive – the choice is up to you. In order to do that, just download the cloud app onto your Android phone and set up your account. Once that’s done, you will be able to find your files once you sign into the account on the laptop.
