In one of our recent posts, we compared the two mobile messenger applications, coming to the conclusion that both of them are viable solutions for getting your ideas across. While Whatsapp is a more chat-focused application, WeChat will try to keep you multi-tasking – more on that can be found in this post –Whatsapp Or WeChat? Take Your Pick.

For now, we’ll focus on the web-access functions that the two applications have added – which offer more versatility for their use and an incredible amount of convenience.

If you haven’t yet heard – you can now use both Whatsapp and WeChat on the web in pretty much the same way you use them on your mobile.

For WeChat this function is available for both Android and IOS, while Whatsapp does not have the IOS version for the web yet due to “Apple platform limitations”, according to WhatsApp.

One more note – to enable the web function with WhatsApp, you will need to launch Chrome browser, as other browsers are not supported. WeChat does not have that limitation.

Without further a due, let’s go through process.

Here’s How You Can Use Whatsapp On The Web

Fire up Google Chrome browser and head to https://web.whatsapp.com.

A QR code will pop up – and you will need to have a QR code scanner on your phone in order to proceed.

Pick up your smartphone and go to Whatsapp. Click the three dots at the top to access Options and choose Whatsapp On The Web.

The app will then bring up a QR-code scanning screen – just point it at your laptop screen and within no time you’ll be logged in to WhatsApp on your computer.

Computer version of WhatsApp will be very familiar with the mobile one and you should have no trouble navigating the scene.

The only point worth mentioning here is the support of desktop notifications. This means you will be getting alerts as to the incoming messages and replies on your computer screen. To turn off this feature, head back to your phone, tap on the three dots and disable Desktop Alerts And Sounds.

Here’s How You Can Use WeChat On The Web

The process of getting WeChat to work on the web is very similar – same, if you wish. Just in case, here’s what you do.

Open any browser on your laptop or PC and head over to https://web.wechat.com.

A QR code will appear.

You already know what to do here – head over to WeChat on your smartphone. Go to Discover>Scan QR code.

Aim your phone at the screen and scan the code on the laptop.

You will soon see the Log In button appear on your smartphone screen – press it.

Once that’s done, you should soon be logged in to WeChat and see the familiar interface right on your laptop screen.
