Rapid Battery Charging from StoreDot Expected to Arrive Later this Year

The rapid charging battery system developed by StoreDot could be seen later this year if early indicators and reports from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona are correct.

One of the big universal problems to any electronic devices is the need for a constant supply of power and as our technology gets smarter it also tends to require more electricity to keep it going. This is especially felt with mobile devices that typically need charging for a few hours or more each day. The battery system from StoreDot could well eliminate this issue as what used to take hours could now be achieved in a few moments. There are some cleaver ways to extend your phones battery life and even some battery saving apps for Smartphone’s and other devices, but the ability to recharge a battery in a matter of mere minutes would clearly be highly advantageous to any user.

StoreDot’s solution is to use a different chemical than that used in traditional batteries. It has been demonstrated on a Samsung Galaxy S5 where a battery life of 15% went to 100% in around 2 minutes. The company has the ambitious target of getting 1500mAh battery to charge fully in one minute by the end of this year. So while many manufactures of smart devices are looking at lower power consumption and smarter tech to improve battery life the approach from StoreDot takes a different path and that is to build batteries that are able to charge incredibly fast.

If this is successful it would benefit more than just Smartphone’s. Electric transport in the form of cars, bikes and other rivals would also benefit as would a whole host of electronic devices so the possibilities are very exciting. Read more on this topic here.
