The Impossible Bike Has Been Made Possible

Here’s a new concept, a folding electric bike that you can fit into an everyday backpack. Impossible right? Well you would be wrong to think so. After 3 years in development Impossible Technologies has produced the folding electric bike that can fit into a backpack, and not one of those huge hiking sacks you see backpackers trekking the globe with, just a standard everyday backpack. This remarkable bike could well revolutionize portable electronic transportation.

When the team behind this portable bike first came up with the concept they thought that the Impossible Bike needed to be more than just another folding bike, it had to be compact enough to be put in a backpack and light weight enough to be easily transportable while still remaining durable enough for everyday use. Quite stiff specifications to meet, but now just 3 years on they are almost ready for production.

Rather than relying on a single horizontal frame as is common in other bikes the impossible bike uses circular components that the wheels fold out “The circular design of the frame helps to ensure that the bike spreads the weight equally across the frame” said impossible technologies.

There are two circular frames and these are made from carbon fiber to keep the bike light weight however they are joined together using a central steal box, in their Kickstarter video the designers say that “This steel box can easily bear the weight of the rider and withstand the shocks associated with everyday use”.

With a custom made motor the bike can reach speeds of 12.4MPH for around 45 minutes which isn’t bad for something so compact. You can visit the Kickstarter page to see more.
