The British Government is trying with the help of entertainment companies and broadband providers to start a huge campaign that has been designed to persuade UK consumers to only download legal material from download sites. This campaign is called the ‘Creative Content UK’ and it will use a whooping £3.5 million to educate and bring awareness to others. Designed to target online users and advise them about trustworthy sources as well as safety on the internet.
Some internet providers will advise customers if they have been downloading illegal material or anything that infringes copyright and then suggests where they can find legal content to download. Companies such as BPI and the Motion Picture Association have already signed up to this campaign as well as big internet service providers such as Sky, BT and Virgin Media. The sales of music, video and games reached more than £1 billion during 2012.
