The New iPhone 13 – Everything you need to know
Apple dropped their new iPhone line last Tuesday at Apple's September event. No surprise there… But what are the surprises with the new iPhone 13 line? Hmmm…on a first look, not much. However, Apple does know to give us a surprise every year, so let’s check it out. iPhone 13 let’s see what you got!

Basics…
Beyond the outside looks of the new iPhone 13 line, which is quite similar to its predecessor (iPhone 12), iPhone 13 line has a lot new stuff to offer.
Let’s start from the line itself, what new iPhones did we get?
The new Apple smartphones line is: iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro…and from there: iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Simply put, again, Apple gave us the, now usual, “full line”.
Significant upgrades from iPhone 12 are the following: iPhone 13 phones run on iOS 15, all have upgraded cameras, significantly better battery life, brighter screens, slightly narrow notch and new Bionic 15 Apple processor.
One of the biggest upgrades comes with the iPhone’s flagship 13 Pro Max and that is 120Hz refresh rate display and 1TB memory option.

The key specs
Screen:
All of the iPhone 13 models feature the same OLED Super Retina XDR display.
Screen size goes from 5.4-inch display for iPhone 13 Mini, to 6.1-inch for the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch display. And, as previously mentioned, all have increased screen brightness and Pro models now come with adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
Cameras:
As in iPhone 12 models, standard version of 13 comes with the 2 rear cameras and the Pro models come with 3 cameras. Comparing to 12 Pro models, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max cameras have increased optical zoom from 2x/2.5x to 3x zoom, which is quite significant upgrade. And all iPhone 13 models come with the 12 MP resolution main camera and wide/ultra wide lens.
Special treat for the video lovers comes with the new Cinematic Mode which offers professional-grade cinematography to videos with Dolby Vision HDR. Its special feature is that it uses rack focus to seamlessly shift the focus from one subject to another when capturing video (only drawback to this feature is that it doesn’t support 4K recording, only 1080P).
Also worth mentioning is iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max ProRes video shooting format, which offers plenty of professional quality editing opportunities. But, do note that ProRes video format is not available in 4K for the 128GB versions (it is capped at 1080P); however, the higher storage options support 4K ProRes.
Front-facing cameras all come in 12 MP resolution TrueDepth and of course there is biometric Face ID unlock.
Processor:
Apple introduced their A15 Bionic chip for the iPhone 13 line, which offers performance and efficiency improvements over the A14 chip used in the iPhone 12.
The A15 chip features a 4-core GPU for the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini models, while the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have one more core. This gives the iPhone 13 Pro and the Pro Max the fastest GPU performance (of course and standard iPhone 13 models are close enough).
The 16-core Neural Engine can perform up to 15.8 trillion operations per second! Which allows new iPhone 13 Pro models to powers new features like Cinematic Mode and Smart HDR 4.
Memory:
As you can see from the pricing, looks like that Apple decided that 64GB is not enough anymore and the new iPhone 13 starts with the 128GB memory option and goes up to 1TB for the Pro models. Cameras are more advanced than in the previous models, offering features like Cinematic Mode and yeah, you will need your 1TB memory if you use your iPhone for more than just usual day to day smartphone.
Battery life:
One of the significant upgrades, compared to iPhone 12 is the battery life. On average, iPhone 13 phones have around 2 hours longer battery life than iPhone 12. iPhone 13 and 13 Pro should see a 2.5 hours increase while 13 Mini and 13 Pro Max should see 1.5 hour increase. This upgrade comes from the new A15 Bionic processor, more optimized iOS 15 as well as the battery itself.

To sum up…
Although new iPhone 13 line doesn’t seem like a significant upgrade from 12 (at least from the looks of it), after closer look at it, it certainly is! Does it bring a lot of excitement? Well, it depends…you either are an iPhone lover or you are not. And one thing is for sure, iPhone lovers are going to love the new iPhone Apple got for us in 2021 – the iPhone 13.
