To add your own numbers manually, just select the numbers on ‘my block list’ and add any number you would like.

Truecaller

Truecaller has more setup involved than the other apps. You will need an account, either on Google, Facebook or Linkedin and will need to confirm your phone number before accessing the app.

From the main screen of the app, you can search any phone number you like to get more info on it. This is useful when you want to know the identity of your caller. Plus, the app flashes you the identity of the caller when you get a call. Spam callers are labelled in red, alerting you to an unwanted caller.

Call Blocker Free

Call Blocker Free is another free app that helps you to block callers. However, like truecaller you have to set up the app first.

The app allows you to add numbers to 'blacklist' and 'whitelist'. Blacklist is where you add numbers that aren’t allowed and whitelist is where you add  numbers that are always allowed.

When you launch the app, you will see the space where the app collects blocked calls. You can add numbers to the blacklist and whitelist by tapping their field and pressing the white plus in the top-right corner of the screen.

You can choose to add numbers from your call history, contacts, recent text messages, or just punch them in manually. Once you have added numbers set the blocking mode to your liking. There are four options; accept all, block all from blacklist, accept only from whitelist and accept only from whitelist and contacts.

Robokiller

Robokiller is a killer app, but the only catch is it works on a subscription basis. With a database of more than 1.1 million spam numbers, this app will automatically block a lot of spam calls and robocallers. It even has answer bots – you can choose – that are designed to annoy telemarketers.

The block list updates frequently and you can check blocked calls in your recent calls list. You can even listen to why they were calling. The app gives you a seven-day free trial and after that you will have to pay $3 per month to keep using it.

Blocking calls via Google Voice

Google Voice is a handy service which gives you a free phone number to answer calls from your computer or forward them to your smartphone. It lets you place calls over the internet using your computer or smartphone.
