The Worlds Cheapest Smartphone – Too Good To be True!
The boss of Ringing Bells, the company behind the Freedom 251 Smartphone, has been arrested in India on allegations of fraud.
Mohit Goel announced the Worlds Cheapest Smartphone, the Freedom 251 just a year ago and it was priced at an unbelievable $3.6 USD or £2.5 GBP. Substantially cheaper than anything other Smartphone available.
Naturally, there was a lot of interest and while many customers got their Freedom 251 phone there were plenty who accused ringing bell of not fulfilling all of its orders.
One distribution company, Ayam Enterprises, claims it paid 3 million rupees ( about $45,000 USD) but only received 1.4 million worth of phones. This is not the only accuser and according to a BBC article many similar complaints have been filed.
The world’s cheapest handset did raise a number of questions about how the company could afford to make and sell a phone at such a low price and it appears that this could have been just too good to be true.
