Similar the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 (CES) in Las Vegas that took place last month, MWC Barcelona 2017 is an event during which leading technology companies tend to announce their soon to be launched flagship devices. Participants of this year’s GSMA Mobile World Congress include major players such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Sony, and Huawei – promising a wide array of interesting sneak peeks into what the mobile industry has to offer the world throughout 2017.

So, what can be expected from the Mobile World Congress Barcelona? This is what we know at the moment.
One major change that is expected this year is that Samsung will have a low-profile presence at the show. Throughout the past years the company’s Galaxy S phone has been its anchor product, however, due to the recent Note 7 recall and the uncertainty about what caused this phone to explode, it is likely that Samsung will hold off its Galaxy S8 launch until after it can be 100% sure their next flagship phone won’t suffer from the same problems.
Although Samsung may not give us a Galaxy S8 speak peek, the company did announce that it will unveil a new tablet at the Mobile World Congress 2017. This tablet is likely to be the Galaxy Tab S3 and, in terms of rumors, this latest Samsung tablet will feature a 9.6-inch display, and will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU along with 4GB of RAM – truly making it a powerful tablet to look forward too.

Another global player in the mobile industry that will be announcing their latest flagship device at the 2017 MWC will be LG. As long expected, LG will unveil details of their upcoming LG G6 smartphone at the show. What we know so far about this latest Android phone is that it features a 5.7-inch display. Also interesting is that this new model phone from LG will ditch its predecessor’s modular design – in fact, their latest handset drops the removable battery altogether with the aim to make it waterproof like many of its competitor’s devices.
The LG G6 is furthermore expected to hold the relatively older Snapdragon 812 chipset. The company has chosen for this as it did not want to hold up the launch of their latest Android smartphones. We will just have to see if this was the right decision as, implementing an older CPU into the latest Android phone, is something that does not much good to the phone’s premium ambitions.

Besides the LG G6, another high-end smartphone is expected to be announced at the show – namely the long expected Huawei P10. A further interesting MWC Barcelona 2017 spoiler is that Apple was listed as an exhibitor. Although Apple has sworn off trade shows throughout the past, the company did suddenly show up at the 2017 exhibitor list of the Mobile World Congress but then was – just as quickly – removed again. Although the real status on Apple’s attendance is unknown, the official website of the MWC suggests that the American company might show up at their expo taking place during the end of this month.
Nokia will also be attending the Mobile World Congress Barcelona, announcing its latest flagship Android phone – the Nokia P1 Android Smartphone. Along with this absolutely stunning smartphone, the Finnish company is also expected to give a sneak peek into its soon to be launched 18.4-inch Android Tablet.
Xiaomi, one of China’s leading and most innovative tech companies, on the other hand, won’t be attending the 2017 Mobile World Congress Barcelona. Something that came as a big surprise to many.
