5 Things You Can Do With Windows 10 Cortana

One of Windows 10 most talked about features is its digital assistant Cortana. The concept, which has long been available on mobile, has now made it onto the big screen.

In this short post, we take a closer look at Cortana and some of the key things you can do it.

Set Reminders

A useful feature both on mobile and desktop. Cortana has a powerful built-in reminder feature and there is quite a lot you can do with it. You can create a reminder set for a specific time, location or even when talking to a specific person. Cortana can easily understand full sentences, so you can simply say: “Remind me to call Beth at 10am tomorrow”. To use this feature, simply use the Reminders icon in Cortana or say “Remind Me”.

Use “Real” Language

Cortana makes looking for things very easy and lets you use “normal” language, instead of computerized phrases to find what you need. You can say “find pictures from my Birthday”, for instance — and Cortana will do just that.

Identify Tunes

Don’t have Shazam? No worries! Cortana can help you identify unknown music with the same prowess. Get the song playing and say “ What is this song?” and Cortana will let you know which tune is playing. This feature works well with recorded music, but may not be quite as accurate at live jams.

Calculate and Covert

You can use Cortana for quick calculations. You can either type into the search box if you don’t want to speak long numbers. So, you can either type “45137 + 56848” or say “45137 plus 56848”. You can also ask Cortana to convert items, like currencies, measurement units and more.

Launch Programs

Cortana can take over launching programs as well. Simply say “Launch Google Chrome”, for instance — and you PC assistant will get the program started. While saying may not necessarily be faster than clicking on the said program, it’s way more fun and quite addictive.
