What Are The Advantages?

The sole goal of doing any kind of business is to make profit. This being said when it comes to supply chain management, this goal can be achieved through increased efficiency, improved customer satisfaction and lowered organization costs. This is where social media steps in. Given the fact that worldwide, more than 2 billion people use social media on daily basis, the opportunity to conduct business more effectively and efficiently has never been so expressed. First and foremost certain online platforms can greatly improve the communication between the supplier and the customer.

This way the supplier is in a position to get direct feedback regarding its services and the customers’ demands, resulting in an improved customer service. On the other hand, social media enables better communication within the supply chain. This can greatly contribute to the complete management system, increase the productivity and save not only time but money as well. Last but certainly not least, social media networks are a great way to become more visible on the internet and to promote your business worldwide. It also helps in sourcing potential suppliers or business partners for that matter.

The Reality

Unfortunately, the reality is somewhat different. According to a recent survey conducted among 77 companies whose primary field of work are wholesale, distribution, manufacturing and retail, only 1% of said companies rely on social media for organization and planning. Considering the fact that the advantages of using social media in the supply chain management are humongous, it is safe to claim that these numbers are quite alarming. Of course, these kinds of technological innovations require a certain amount of time in order to become fully implemented into the business sphere, so it is likely that certain supply chains will start introducing these modern technologies in the not so distant future.
