What to Look Forward to in Google Enabled Wearable Technology
Google has become a synonym of innovation. The search engine giant has not only ruled the internet in the past decade but has also introduced some technology advanced gadgets like Google Glass. Google’s Advanced Technologies and Projects division (ATAP) is addressing the current issues faced by users while using wearable gadgets like smartwatch. The smartwatches provides too small interface for accurate touch interaction.
This project is focused on gesture radar solution; radar is used to capture motion in fingers from the hand in free space and real time. The problem with the radar dishes was they were too large to fit in a wearable smartwatch. ATAP has developed indigenously a mobile gesture radar system which is small enough to fit in a smart watch. The radar signal can recognize the user’s shape of hand, size, pose and dynamics. This means you can operate your smartwatch just by hovering over it and making the gestures. You don’t have to touch your smart watch to interact with it.
This project makes it possible to weave touch and gesture interactivity into any textile using classic industrial looms. This means everyday objects like textile & furniture can be converted into bilateral surfaces. The Jacquard yarn structures combine thin, metallic alloys with yarns like polyester , cotton or silk. This will make the yarn durable enough to be woven into any industrial loom. This implicates that in the near future the clothes we wear can also be transformed into wearable gadgets with interactive surfaces. This will not only impact the technology industry but the fashion industry as well with the advent of connected clothing. Project Jacquard will facilitate designers and developers to frame touch sensitive textiles into their own products.
As per the leaks from Google documentation, a new feature Together is anticipated in android wear. This new feature will enable communication between smartwatches to be more personal and viewing information much faster. The users will be able to send emoji, photos, stickers, messages and doodles to each other. The new version of android wear allows drawing emoji on the screen. The android wear would have single screen tap control and right to left swipe.
The latest patent filed by Google for Google Glass describes that the new Google Glass will have motion sensors and tiny motors that will automatically detect where user’s head is angled and adjust the glasses so they stay fitted to bridge of user’s nose. When user is wearing Google Glass while running the device will detect that the wearer is bobbing up and down, this will contract the arms of the glass to grip user’s head. Like any other device the Google Glass will have to be charged at the end of each day.
From the above mentioned trends and updates we can be sure that Google has lot in store to tap in the wearable device market. Google is facing a tough competition from Apple’s smartwatch and both of them are trying to be one step ahead of each other which will be beneficial for the users eventually.
