Sports Illustrated goes 3D with a VR Swimsuit Edition for 2016
With the launched of VR headsets scheduled for later in the year what better way to boost your readership than by making a 3D glasses version of your latest magazine.
This is exactly what Sports Illustrated announced last week with regards to its annual swimsuit edition.
With a readership in the region of 60 million it has pulled in around $1 billion over its 52 year run an now the famous glossy magazine is being brought into 3 dimensions and allowing readers to experience the photo shoots in virtual reality. Including thousands of photos and some videos of the world’s most beautiful women the app is sure to be a hit with the magazines reader base.
The magazine comes with a cut out and assemble 3D view much like the Google cardboard. once constructed you can use these 3D glasses to enjoy the VR phone app.

From what has been released so far the Time Inc. magazines swimsuit app doesn’t disappoint and includes a number of clips shot by Venice beach as well as other content from resorts in the Dominican republic.
Users of the app will have a choice of using it with their Smartphone and a view like the Google cardboard or sturdy plastic views such as the VR BOX 3D Video Glasses. Alternatively they can use higher end 3D Video Glasses such as the Oculus rift or more affordable Video Glasses, like those on offer at Chinavasion.
