Xiaomi Take Top Spot as Largest Smart Phone Vendor in China
Xiaomi and Huawei account for almost one third of all handsets in China in Q2
In Q2 one in every three handsets shipped in China was from Huawei or Xiaomi, the latter of whom regain their crown as the largest smart phone vendor in China and according to Canalys estimates had a staggering 15.9% market share while Huawei saw impressive growth to take a 15.7% share of the market over the same period.
With such an intense competition in the Chinese Smartphone market “Xiaomi is facing intense pressure to keep its top position in the quarters to come” said Jingwen Wang, Analyst at Canalys.
Much of this pressure comes from Apple and Samsung who have both increased sales activity in the region after Xioami first took the top spot in 2014.
Later this month Xiaomi will release its MIUI 7 customized version of Android OS, which features its very own app store in replacement to the Google Play sore which is blocked in China.
It is expected that this new system will be based on the latest version of goggles OS, Android 5.1.1, but even though the launch is just a week away there is still relatively little confirmed information about the new system. Its also expected that Xioami could use the Beijing launch date to announce a new Smartphone offering which is likely to be an updated version of the Mi Note and Note pro which released earlier this year.
