In the early 1990s it was believed that there could not be any more advances in the technology found in automobiles. But due to emerging fuel scarcity and increasing government pressure and legislation about clean air engineers were forced into thinking about developing more efficient engines and cars. Following are a few of the advancements which have been made in the automobile industry.

Aerodynamic

In car development the aerodynamics of a vehicle is one of the most crucial parameters. Careful attention is being paid to reduce aerodynamic drag as far as possible. The effect of aerodynamic drag only comes into play at higher speeds such as those reached on the open road, but it is also one of the factors that is actively pursued by the manufacturers.

Powerful Engines

Advancement and innovation in engines is the most crucial area of development. The engineers and manufacturers combine a lot of expertise, experience, and knowledge to come up with innovative ideas and make car engines more powerful, responsive, and fuel efficient. Engines in the automobile industry have been in consistent evolution since the dawn of the automobile industry. In recent times the engines have become more powerful, more durable, quieter, less polluting and hugely more fuel efficient than ever before, these consistent advancements in engine technology have led to staggering improvements, as automotive engineers and manufacturers consistently work on the ways to improve the performance of the internal combustion of engine. These are some of the most remarkable engines developed over the last 20 years or so.

Honda K20

This engine is developed by Honda it is the first line of engine of the K series. K series engine introduced in 2001 it is a four-cylinder four-stroke engine. The K series engines are hot cake engines and equipped with roller rockers which help in friction reduction and DOHC valve trains.

Toyota 1LR-GUE V10

This engine developed by Yamaha is made of aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy and titanium alloy. This engine is like the Volvo V8 that powers the Nobel M600 but Toyota’s make is smaller than V8.

AMC 4.0

This engine was introduced in late 80s and was designed by AMC.

Alfa Romeo V6 24V

Alfa Romeo V6 24V was introduced in 1979.Origionaly as 2.5 L, production engines but would ultimately range from 2.0 L to 3.2 L displacement. With modifications it is possible to increase engine displacement to 3.8 L.

Toyota 2JZ-GTE

Toyota 2JZ-GTE introduced in 1991. The 2JZ-GTE is a 3000CC, 24V belt driven DOHC, intercooled twin turbo inline 6 cylinder engine with cast iron block and alloy cylinder head.

Buick V6 Series 2 3800

This engine is introduced in 1962.3800 is one of the best engine of 20th century. The block is made from cast iron and all use two-valve-per-cylinder iron heads, actuated by pushrods.

Volkswagen TFSI

Volkswagen TFSI is one of the best engine of 20th century. For petrol engine TSI is the pioneer technology. These engines have block of cast aluminum for lightness and die forged steel crankshaft which provides strength. Displacing 1196 cc, the 1.2 TSI engines have 71mm bore and 75.6mm stroke.

These days many manufactures are also starting to look towards alternatives to the combustion engine such as electric engines and hybrid cars. This is in part due to advancements in these technologies that allows for more compact designs with a greater range and shorter recharge times.

Its clear that the motoring world is on the precipice of a new age in transportation. With a growing market for clean transport and personal electric transportation, like uni-wheels and electric scooters as well as the most efficient and cleanest cars to date becoming more affordable there’s a lot to look forward to. Surely the next 20 years will surprise and amaze us all.
