Android Lollipop 5.0 has come with a number if useful updates. Today we’ll talk about one of them – which allows you set various levels of access to your smartphone for various users. For instance, if your smartphone is used by more than one person – or you know that it might be frequently borrowed by friends and family – it may be a good idea to set up user restrictions on your phone. Once you do, you will be able to pick and choose which smartphone functions you want to remain in general use and which ones should stay unavailable to certain users.

So how do you go about enabling user restrictions on Android Lollipop 5.0?

Like in most cases, you first head over to Settings on your smartphone. From there, go to the Device section of the menu and locate the tab labeled Users.

Under Users, you will find a list of current users for this device, as well as the newly added Guest tab – meant for those users who you don’t want to have full access to the content of your device.

User Profiles

If you want to setup a new profile for specific users – tap on Add User Or Profile.

Under this tab, you will be presented with two options: User and Restricted Profile.

User will have full access to all the phone data, as well as the ability to create their own content and download apps.

If you are creating an account for a child, for example, you will go with Restricted Profile – in this case you can restrict access to the your phone’s content and apps.

Once and if you have selected Restricted profile, you will then be prompted to set up a password and profile information (like the name of the account).

Restricted Profile

You will also be presented with a list of settings that you can apply to this particular account. So you will be able to go through the list of all apps and data and decide what information the user of this account will have access to and what type of data will be restricted.

You may want to take your time here and think what applications may hold private information. If you are setting up an account for a child – you can also add violent games or web access to the “no-go zone”.

Once everything is set, you will see the new account appear in the list together with you existing ones – just go back to the Home Screen and bring down the user menu from the top. click to check out more parental control tips for Android.
