5 Beautifully Dark Games For Android

In one of our previous posts, we have done a round-up on the scariest games for Android – and you can read more about them right here – Top 5 Games For Android That Are Downright Scary. Sometimes, a scary game is just what the doctor ordered, as it can have us sitting on the edge of the chair with adrenaline pumping through our veins – giving us that much-needed rush of excitement before a proper and scheduled day.

There can also be times when the dark part of your mind takes over and all you want to do is sit at home with the lights off staring at the rain pouring on the other side of the window. When the emo mood grabs hold of you, the best way to make the sadness go away may be to actually indulge in it even more and look for solace in the creepy plots and characters of some pretty gothic games.

The pure desperation of the fictional characters, shadowy backgrounds and soul-crunching plots may turn out to be the best cheer-up medicine – and pretty soon you will be too engrossed in your character’s miserable escapades to worry about anything else.

Limbo

Limbo

Limbo is a dark game if you’ve ever seen one. Starting right from the name down to the shadowy black colour palette – it will have you shivering on the sunniest of days.

In the game, you will be assuming the role of a boy, looking for his lost sister in (yep, you’ve guessed it) Limbo. You may think of Limbo as a mystical in-between, filled with mystery and wonder – but that’s not the kind of Limbo we’re talking about. You will find yourself in a place of constant night, wandering through dark gloomy forests fret with all sorts of unpleasant surprises: from hanging corpses to giant spider shadows. Despite it’s straightforwardly creepy scene, the game is actually quite a brain-teaser and has been dubbed “Best Puzzle Game” by Gamestop.

Contre Jour

Contre Jour

If you want to stop and ponder the impertinent nature of things – there is nothing like Contre Jour to set just the right kind of mood. The game is in the league of its own when it comes to both design and plot and has quite an existential feel to it. Instead of controlling the main character of the game – a shapely creation named Petit, you will be responsible for taking charge of the environment around him and making every bit of nature fall into place to guarantee the small thing’s survival. From adjusting the surrounding hills to controlling monstrous tentacles to help Petit get to the other side – you will have your hands full.

Note: Before buying the game at $1.99 – take a look at how it’s been reviewed by the users with a similar phone model. There have been inconsistency and crash complaints on the game – even those who do get to playing it – seem to all love it.

Blindscape

Blindscape

Blindscape is dark in the most obvious of meanings. There are simply no graphics involved and for the whole game you will be staring at the dark screen. Surprisingly, that is the best part. Promising to be an extraordinary auditory experience, the game relies entirely on your hearing to guide you through he gameplay. It is different, to say the least. It will let you explore a different set of settings than you do in a typical mobile game – and instead of speed of reaction and finger dexterity, you will be working with your listening skills and the ability to adapt. This is the game you simply must turn off the lights for and put on your headphones.

 Miseria

Miseria

Making a list of dark games for Android and not mentioning Miseria does not make any sense. The game is a homerun for all your misery and has all the elements of a perfect gothic plot: grey background, black graphics and a labyrinth. Starting with the drama of two separated lovers, your character’s goal will be to get reunited with the love of your life – by going through the multiple level of winding labyrinths with increasing complexity. As you would expect, figuring out the shortest escape route will not be your only problem, as you will be met by ill-wishing monsters and unforeseen twists.

Follow The Light

Follow The Light

Once you are done with the darkness (ad we hope by this 5th game you are) – it’s time to get to the light. But not without some exciting gameplay. The name of the game is a straight give-away to what you will be expected to do. As we have been looking for the dark with this list of Android games, you will now be asked to avoid and escape it. Following the classic tradition, the game is a platformer – so there will be a lot of jumping and sliding involved. Get past the obstacles and keep your eyes on the prize- that is – light.
