Shazam, SoundHound, TrackID, … these smartphone apps are used to identify songs while you’re listening to. There are many similar apps to do this. But did you know that Google Now also comes with built in function to identify songs and even TV shows?
It’s just one of the many features available inside Google’s digital assistant that aren’t immediately obvious to the casual user. If you hear a tune you would like to identify, here’s how to get Google Now on the case.
It’s a two-tap process: First, tap the microphone box for voice input inside the Google search bar either on the Android home screen or inside Google Now. When the app realizes music is playing, it will show a musical note icon. Tap on this to confirm that you want to identify a particular song. Or you can just ask “what song is this?”. After a few moments, the result appears on screen.
*However this service is not available worldwide yet. In some countries unfortunately you may get a “Action not supported on your country” message. In this case just use the 3rd party music ID apps.
