New Wearable Tech: Tommy Hilfiger Jacket with Solar Panels
High street clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger has launched a new jacket aimed at the gadget enthusiasts who need portable power.
I’m sure we’ve all been there, out doing your thing when your phone, tablet or other portable device makes a few distressing beeps before completely running out of power. Well there are several produces already on the market to help in these scenarios. One such solution would be power banks, which can be great if you remembered to charge one and have it on you. If not you could be stuck without power, and while that’s not the end of the world it can be very inconvenient.
Well, fear not my friends because with this new jacket from Tommy Hilfiger you can plug your device directly into your jacket and start to recharge. This wearable tech is a nice concept and has been achieved by the clothing label paring up with Pavilion to include solar panels in their recently launched pair of jackets. The tartan design may be nice and the water resistant solar panels connect to a 1500mAh battery that you can connect your phone to so as it can be charged. The panels can easily be attached and detached so you can charge your phone or top up the battery when needed. However for $599 it’s a lot of money for something that’s not exactly appealing to look at. The woman’s (Blue Jacket) has also been likened to a TARDIS. Take a closer look at the picture below.
Leave a comment and let us know if you think it has a striking resemblance to this TARDIS.
Despite half of the proceeds going to the fresh air fund I think I would rather have a rucksack with a solar panels or just keep a charged power bank by my desk in case I need it, as they are much more preferable than these silly looking jackets and are considerably cheaper. You can check out some great portable power alternatives at Chinavasion, and while they may not have high street brand labels they won’t make you look like a TARDIS or cost the earth.
