If we have learnt anything over the past few months it’s that the internet isn’t the safe place we would like it to be. There have been a number of privacy issues with apps over the past few months with Snapchat, Whisper and Facebook to name but a few in the firing line.

Well help for Facebook users is at hand in the form of an app named Tinfoil.

One of the major complaints about Facebook is how it can track your movements even when you’re not on Facebook. To resolve this and other Facebook privacy fears Lifehacker recommends using the Tinfoil app.

So how does Tinfoil work? Simple, it runs the Facebook app but inside its own little environment where it can isolate all the bad cookies that Facebook pops up and keep them separate from your browsers normal cookies, this prevents them from continuing to run in the background after you close the app and also means they can’t track your phone.

How can I get this App? Well the great news is that it’s totally free, so you can go to the Google Play Store and download yourself a copy, once installed you can customize the settings by using the slide out menu on the right of the screen and see the preferences tab.

You want to click the check box for the option ‘open links inside app’. The other options you may chose as you please. It’s important to remember that Tinfoil will require you to log out of other accounts such as Google so as Facebook can’t use the data in those accounts to track you.
