Dyson 360 Eye Brings a Revolution in Cleaning Technology

This year’s IFA – Berlin Trade show – has seen a wide selection of devices and new gadgets especially phones and wearable technology as well as robotics and household appliances.

Dyson who are famous for their bag less vacuum cleaners unveiled a new cleaner with a difference earlier this week at the show in Berlin. They call it the Dyson 360 Eye. It has reportedly taken Sir James Dyson’s company 16 years to engineer this powerful robotic cleaner.

Considering that robotic cleaners have been on the market for over 10 years Sir James explained why its taken so long for Dyson to start competing in this area of the market. “We didn’t want to put out a gimmick,” He says that meant inventing a new way for the vacuum to navigate.

“Accurate navigation is the key to cleaning properly,” says Dyson. “I don’t just mean in coverage, but in terms of not going over the same spot twice, because if you do that you’re wasting the battery’s power.” This attention to detail and a drive to make a robot which can do the job just as well as any human is the reason behind the lengthy development in perfecting this robot. The Dyson 360 Eye may have taken a while to engineer but it looks like it’s been worth the wait. It uses a 360-degree camera that views the room at a 45 degree angle and takes 30 pictures per second. It turns those photos into a map of the room to help track where it is. When starting the robotic cleaner will triangulate its position in the room and navigate to its center.

It also uses infra red sensors to ensure it doesn’t bump into any table legs or startle the unsuspecting pet. These sensors combined with the virtual map give the robotic cleaner an uncanny special awareness and lets it work efficiently around the room. It also features tracks that it runs on rather than wheels. This lets it move over door frames and change between surfaces easily. The Dyson 360 Eye is due to go on sale next spring, first in Japan and then worldwide. The price is not yet set but if you can’t wait until then why not check out Chinavasions robotic cleaners.
