A USB ‘Condom’ so you can protect your dongle from infections
You should always use protection when plugging in to unknown ports. This little device can keep all your USB devices safe.
The USB ‘Condom’ as it’s been coined helps protect your phone or other devices when you connect to a USB port.
Plugging into the wall is an easy and safe way to charge most electronic devices however that’s not always an option. Sometimes you may plug your phone or tablet into a computer to get it charged. When you do this you expose it to potential viruses and the risk of being infected. This is where the USB ‘condom’ comes in.
So how does it work? Well, USB leads are basically a bunch of cables wrapped together with a connecter at each end. Some of those cables are for transmitting electric current while others are used for transmitting data. The USB ‘condom’ will block the data connections and only allow the power connections to be used and in this way it can prevent your devices from unwanted bugs and being hacked when connected to USB ports.
It was developed by the security boffins at Xipiter and is available from around $12 you can find out more from this crowdfunding page.
