The Week In Gadgets

China is getting all geared up for its 60th anniversary, with celebration plans even including a major motion picture with all of China’s biggest stars. Yes Andy Lau has already been contacted.

So what would be a good visual representation in the incredibly fast development of Shenzhen?

While looking for video to illustrate Michael Wong’s excellent look back at his first month in China, Strange Women In The Night, A Must See Survival Guide For Shenzhen, we came across a rare gem.

A YouTube video of someone going through a part of the Luohu district in 1982.

The growth the city has gone through in the last 27 years has been incredible as can be seen by these two videos, showing Shenzhen in 1982 and Shenzhen in 2008.

And if those videos excite you enough to learn a bit of Chinese then we’ve got a place to start for you. We have put together a free business Chinese lesson on how to say hello and goodbye in Chinese.
