An article on the “Business Without Borders” website comments about the strengths and weaknesses of an Alibaba IPO. It is certainly going to be hard to value that company, and challenging for Alibaba to set up good momentum while everyone is still reeling from Facebook’s joke of an offering.
In our opinion it’s a red herring to consider what Alibaba could or should be doing in the international field – as they are quite strong enough in what they do inside China, and that is where they will presumably be building. Any successful further diversification or expansion westwards would have to be hand in hand with a more experienced local player.
