On Aug 23rd Tuesday, the incredible closing ceremony of the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade was held at the Window of the World in Nanshan District here in Shenzhen, bringing the 2011 University Games to an end. The next host for this prestigious competition will be Kazan, Russia, who will hold the Universiade in 2013.
From the video of the closing ceremony, we were shown the Universiade flames respectively set at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center and the Window of the World being simultaneously extinguished. Afterwards the flag of the International University Sports Federation was slowly transferred to “Igor Shuvalov”, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
This is one of the best and the most successful sports events in Asia! China ended up with 75 golden medals and 145 medals in total to win the competition, followed by Russia and South Korea.
Most importantly, this sports competition has made Shenzhen better known to the world and builds a solid foundation for its development into a more international city for the future.
