You as the consumer may or may not have an idea about the gadget sourcing process that starts with the conceptualization of a gadget that would benefit the lives of our customers and ends as a listing on the Chinavasion website. It is a sometimes long process that demands time, patience, endless testing and above all else dedication.

Where to go for wholesale earphones

One place that is an excellent start to any gadget sourcing project is Hua Qiang Bei in Central Shenzhen. Once a month, the Chinavasion sourcing A-team make a trip to this massive Chinese gadget sourcing hot spot. Arriving and one is immediately impressed by the sea of buzzing people moving from building to bee-hive shaped building. For a moment it seems conceivable that all 13 million residents of Shenzhen have decided to go gadget sourcing with you. The buildings, each with their own electronics theme, stand in neat rows along both sides of one street, facing each other imposingly. If you have ever been a fan of Japanese cartoons, you would almost certainly expect them transform into galactic robots and battle to the death in the middle of the street.

The melee outside is a fair reflection of what’s going on inside and without an idea of what it is you are sourcing; distracting by the range of products available is all to easy. To avoid returning to Chinavasion with a million things we thought were cool; we decide beforehand what products we are looking for. Then we meet and discuss how the technology in that product has advanced and this lets us know which features are truly useful to our customers and what things to look out for.

The process is a logistical exercise worthy of respect from any wartime commander. At the end of it we are out of breath and out of business cards. You see, the back bone to sourcing (anything) is the building of relationships and trust with suppliers. If we neglected these two key elements we would be inviting a million things can go wrong with quality to do just that. Anyone that’s been in China long enough will tell you the best sourcing in China, especially consumer electronics, is done face to face.

Greg’s Take:

Some of the coolest things that I personally saw included a steampunk inspired Amp system with vacuum tubes galore, single LED flashlight so bright and powerful it shined against a wall 30 meters away in broad daylight, transforming book lights, mini remote controlled cars (really really small) along with large gas powered helicopters, and more and more! My first thought for each of these was and is, "I want one for myself!".

Now to the practical side of this visit. Do you know how tiring it was to walk around for 6 plus hours? While wondering about, you don’t feel the pain, but afterwards? Plus the mind numbing effects of product overload really do start to get to you. Viewing so much so fast does take its toll.
