Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Rumor Roundup

Android has been growing steady the past 6 years. After the original beta version of Android launched in November 2007, we’ve seen a stream of delicious sounding Android versions come by. Android Cupcake was first, followed by, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and now Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. I never knew tech could make me feel so hungry.

With every new release, a raft of new features came baked in and Android went from clunky to buttery smooth. And it won’t be different for the next release. Expect a whole batch of new features, improvements and updates. But what can we expect? And what do we know for sure already? Find out after the break.

Release of Key Lime Pie

Expectations are that Android 5.0 will be released during the Google I/O conference in San Francisco on May 15-17. It’s a pretty safe bet since last year, Android Jelly Bean was unveiled at the same conference. But another reason to assume Android 5.0 is coming in May is that leaked Qualcomm documents point out that two new Snapdragon devices rocking Android 5.0 are going to hit the market in the third quarter of 2013. And the fact that Qualcomm demanded that the leaked files be taken down seems to add to their legitimacy.

Unified Messaging

It is rumored that Google is going to launch a unified messaging app, which would be called Google Babble according to some sources. Whatever the app’s name is going to be, its aim will be to tie together instant messaging, VoIP and Video Calls. Competing directly with Black Berry Messaging and iMessage, Google Babble would be a big addition to the Android platform. This could actually be the main feature of Android 5.0.

Another interesting rumor that surfaced a couple of weeks ago could be pointing towards a unified messaging system, namely that Google is looking to acquire WhatsApp. Although denied by Whatsapp, it would be a logical step for Google since Whatsapp has over 200 million users and would make Google’s task a whole lot easy.

Performance

As always, we can expect Android Key Lime Pie to be smoother, faster and less power consuming.

Wish List

Those were all the Key Lime Pie rumors, all the rest of the Android 5.0 news seems to be more like a combination of a wish list and wild rumors. There are no solid reasons to believe in the following speculations but who knows… Wishful thinking?

These are some of the possibilities:

  • Guest/Child Mode: Set up your Android device to block access to your email, text messages or some apps to prevent nosy guests from accessing private data or changing settings.
  • Performance Profiles: Set your device to the optimal performance setting with just a click for reading, gaming or other activities. This could come in handy when you need to squeeze some last juice out of that battery.
  • New Lock Screen: More options or an updated version of the lock screen would be a well welcome option!
  • Multiple Device Sync: Start watching a movie on your phone and then continue watching it on your tablet. Live synchronization between  all your Android devices would be great!

Which updates do you want to see on Android 5.0? Do you think any of these will be included? Or did we miss some rumors? Let us know in the comments below! As always, we are trying our very best to get you wholesale Android 5.0 phones as quick as possible!
